Finance for 16-19 year olds
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) has now been replaced with different bursary schemes depending on where you study. Look at the list of questions below to see what will be appropriate for you.
Is there any financial help I can get if I go to 6th form?
16 to 19 bursary schemes are being introduced in place of the Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA).
If you are starting Year 12, 13 or 14 at a Newcastle school in September 2011, you might be entitled to a bursary of up to £15 per week to help with costs during term time.

Is there any financial help I can get if I go to Newcastle College?
Due to the Government's withdrawal of Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), Newcastle College has created a new fund, Newcastle College Maintenance Allowance (NCMA), that will help you with the costs associated with studying.
NCMA is available to 16-18 year-old full-time FE students starting from September 2011, who would have previously been eligible for the full Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA), which equalled £30 per week.

How much will university cost from September?
From September 2012 there are two main costs new full-time students need to consider: tuition fees and living costs.
