The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a well respected qualification that allows students to progress to higher education or employment. It is a two year course, where students study six subjects. Three subjects are studied at standard level and three at a higher level.
What is the International Baccalaureate?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a well respected qualification that allows students to progress to higher education or employment. It is broad ranging, so that students have to undertake a wider scope of subjects to gain the qualification.
How many subjects would I study?
Students study six subjects in total. Three at studied at standard level and three at higher level.
How long does the IB last?
Like A Levels, the IB is studied over two years.
What other subjects would I have to study?
All students have to complete an extended essay, Theory of Knowledge component and participate in sporting or creative activities. This is so they develop social skills and an awareness of the world around them.
Where can I study for an IB?
At the moment, the places where you can study for the IB are Newcastle College and South Tyneside College. IBs are also available at TyneMet College in North Tyneside.
